On the Move provides an entertaining and accessible method of giving listeners the stories they need to know to better understand what's going on with transport in and around Longsight and Manchester. It builds democracy by giving people whose voices and issues are often marginalised in mainstream debates a chance to air their views, and an opportunity to directly challenge their elected representatives. | I came on the show because I felt very strongly that it was wrong to raise the bus fare for children in Manchester and I wanted to do something about it. Gill Wright |

The On the Move radio show makes a very useful contribution to the transport debate in Manchester. Because the interviews and phone-ins are relaxed and thorough it is possible to deal with some of the very big issues around in some depth. So often sound bites are insufficient. It is also unusual for the interviewers to be so well informed about the issues they are covering. On the Move takes an balanced, positive approach to sustainable development and makes a very real contribution to bringing important issues to the public and listening to their concerns. The On the Move radio show is a great example on how a locally based initiative can influence and involve a wider area / group of people, it should be highlighted as an example of best practise in utilising alternative media as a community engagement / involvement tool. Bill Harrop |
