Has anyone seen the 53 bus?  We continue to try to get this bus service improved.  'First', the bus company that run it, have recently (January 2006) put it under a punctuality improvement plan.  This means that it should run on time more and should be better managed - i.e. a better service over all.  But...  they also stopped the bus going through Moss Side and residents are angry about this.  We've been lobbying for the bus to return to this area or for a replacement service to be put on and it has now been announced that the 53 bus will return to Moss Side, but will be called the 54 and will run less often...   Read more here...

Soon, we plan to do some monitoring of the new service to see if it meets expectations.  If you are a 53 user and would like to help by keeping a simple diary of your journeys, please get in touch.

The Councils of Greater Manchester are currently putting together a plan for transport in the area for the next five years.  We are working to make sure that the concerns of Longsight are well represented in this. We are also concerned that the policy makers listen to the views of community groups across Greater Manchester.  We asked members of the ALL Network for their thoughts on transport and getting around in Longsight and sent in a response.  You can read this on our documents page.

We work with other community and voluntary groups across Manchester as part of the Community Network for Manchester (CN4M) Transport Pool which feeds into the Transport Thematic Partnership, which is part of the Manchester Partership (LSP). A priority for the Longsight Transport Group is to influence the Local Transport Plan for Manchester (LTP). We can do this by uniting with others in the Transport Pool.

Representatives of the Transport Group attended a visioning conference for the LTP to make sure that our ideas would be included in the first draft. We have also been to a seminar for the community and voluntary sector on the same issue, organised by Greater Manchester Centre for Voluntary Organisations (GMCVO) and attended the Friends of the Earth training day for how to influence the Local Transport Plan.

Ward Transport plans are also being developed and a number of ideas from the Transport Group have already been passed to the consultants employed to carry out the consultation.

We also work at Ward level with Council officers. A number of the recommendations which have come from the Transport Project have been included in the Ward Action Plan.
