| Interview with Neil Swannick -
Manchester City Councillor Neil answers listeners questions on transport and the plans to make Manchester the greenest city in the world, or at least the UK. "The situation in Manchester is not like London... If we move forward with the idea of road pricing it won't be along the lines that London has... that wouldn't actually solve the problem... We've never said no to road pricing. It's always been a possibility. The question is when... It could be there's a point at which we're no longer able to develop the city and increase the number of jobs that we want because the roads are too congested and that clearly would be a break on the development of the city... We're looking at the carbon footprint of all modes of transport... and the benefits that could be achieved by road charging. Certainly I know there are ways you can discriminate between gas guzzlers and more economical vehicles." listen to part a - questions about streets - mp3 4 mins 45 seconds audio 5mb listen to part b - questions about cycling, waterways and buses - mp3 5 mins 16 seconds audio 5mb listen to part c - questions about aviation, cars and road pricing - mp3 5 mins 16 seconds audio 3.5mb |
